TCS Experienced Higher Attrition Post Ending WFH
Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS), owned by TATA Sons, an Indian multinational IT services and consulting firm experienced higher attrition in women employee than men, as women are leaving the company at a higher rate than men, most likely as a result of the return-to-office policy, the IT giant reported in its Integrated Annual Report for 2022–2023.
Milind Lakkad, TCS’s chief human resources officer, stated that historically, attrition rates for women employees—who make up more than 35 percent of our workforce of more than 600,000—have been lower or comparable to those of men.” I would think that working from home during the pandemic reset domestic arrangements for some women, keeping them from returning to the office even after everything normalised,” he added.
“This speaks well of the quality of the women candidates in our leadership pool, as well as our business leaders’ supportive attitudes towards promoting diversity,” he added.
However, the annual report did not define gender attrition, but the company’s total attrition peaked in the middle of the fiscal year and fell to more than 20% at the end of March.
“As we grow the TCS family, I want to call out the stellar role played by our recruitment team in quickly scaling up hiring and onboarding the best available talent, enabling TCS to meet its delivery commitments and capture growth,” said Milind Lakkad, Chief HR Officer.
“We are honouring all job offers and have added 22,600 net employees in FY 23.” Throughout the year, we hired over 44K new employees and our highest-ever number of seasoned experts.
We also increased our focus on organic talent development, securing over 53K cloud certifications during the year, increasing the total number of people certified on hyper scaler platforms to over 110K. This places us among the top two cloud providers’ partners,” he noted.
Furthermore, nearly 14,000 job applications were received in FY23 for TCS’s “Rebegin” initiative for experienced women professionals re-entering the industry after a gap.
Moreover, the organization has concentrated on leadership development programmes such as ‘iExcel,’ which are driving change in this area. According to the annual report, the flagship executive leadership development course for women has completed 22 editions and has benefited 1,450 women leaders.
As of March 31, 2023, the company’s headcount was 6,14,795. TCS’s workforce base decreased by 2,197 employees in the previous quarter, and TCS’s headcount was at 613,974 as of December 31, 2022.
