AI skills lead to over 54% salaries hike to Indian employees: AWS Research

Amazon.com subsidiary Amazon Web Services (AWS) released ground-breaking data today that suggests Indian workers with artificial intelligence (AI) experience may get a pay increase.

The AWS research indicates that professionals in India with AI skills might see a pay increase of more than 54%. The sectors most likely to gain are research and development (R&D) and information technology (IT), with prospective compensation increases of 62% and 65%, respectively.

Access Partnership carried out a study titled “Accelerating AI Skills: Preparing the Asia-Pacific Workforce for Jobs of the Future,” which was commissioned by AWS. In order to gather information about new trends in AI usage and the demands for workforce training, a thorough study that polled over 1,600 employees and 500 companies nationwide was conducted.

Beyond pay increases, the survey shows that Indian workers have a remarkably optimistic view of how AI skills will affect their jobs. Remarkably, 97% of respondents expect a favorable impact, expecting increased job efficiency and professional advancement.

Furthermore, a staggering 95% of employees indicated a strong desire to learn AI capabilities in order to accelerate their career advancement, bridging generational divides. Ninety percent of baby boomers, who are typically thought of as being close to retirement, said they would be happy to register in AI upskilling classes if they were offered.

The study emphasizes how the broad use of AI could increase worker productivity in India. Employers surveyed expect a significant rise in organizational productivity, estimated at 68%. This increase is explained by AI’s 71% automation rate of repetitive jobs, 68% ease of skill acquisition, and 64% improvement of workflow and results. According to workers themselves, AI might increase productivity by up to 66%.

The survey also emphasizes how quickly AI is being used in India’s diverse industries. By 2028, an astounding 99% of employers expect their businesses to become AI-powered organizations. According to 97% of employers, the finance department is expected to benefit the most from AI integration, but other departments, such as IT, R&D, sales, marketing, business operations, human resources, and legal, stand to gain significantly as well.

According to an Amazon Web Services (AWS) survey, employees with AI abilities and competence could expect pay increases of more than 54%; the biggest increases are expected for those working in IT (65%) and research and development (62%).

This was based on a poll named “Accelerating AI Skills: Preparing the Asia-Pacific Workforce for Jobs of the Future” that Access Partnership conducted on behalf of AWS. The company claims that it polled 500 companies and over 1,600 employees in India.

Up to 97% of workers who responded to the study said they thought having AI abilities would help them advance in their careers and be more efficient at work, and 95% of workers stated they would be interested in learning AI skills to do so. It appeared that this desire was cross-generational, as 95% of Gen Z workers, 96% of Millennials, and 93% of Gen X workers wanted to learn AI capabilities. Up to 90% of baby boomers stated that if an AI upskilling course was available, they would take it.

The Asia-Pacific area, including India, is seeing a transformation in the way businesses and individuals work due to the AI tsunami. Our research indicates that increased productivity will have a positive impact on society at large and raise pay for skilled individuals in India.

Employers and governments need to develop a workforce that is competent to lead both current and future AI developments since it is projected that an increasing number of organizations will use AI tools and solutions, and because AI-driven innovations will only get better.

“The AI wave is sweeping across the Asia-Pacific region, including India, and transforming the way businesses operate and the way we work,” said Abhineet Kaul, Director at Access Partnership. He underlined how important it is for businesses and governments to have a workforce with strong AI skills who can lead future developments.

The survey also highlights the growing interest in generative AI, a technology that can produce a wide range of materials quickly. Within the next five years, almost all Indian firms and employees questioned expect to integrate generative AI tools into their operations. The main advantages mentioned include better results, more inventiveness and originality, and task automation for monotonous work.
