Air India introduces new salary structure for pilots and cabin crew
Following the acquisition of Air India by Tata Sons, the company is putting the finishing touches on its historic reforms, which it committed to in the January 2022 acquisition agreement.
Now, Air India has announced a new pay structure for cabin crew and pilots that will take effect on April 1, 2023. The new pay scheme provides for a minimum salary of 250,000 rupees per month for a pilot and a maximum salary of 28.5 lakh per month, with variations based on pilot category and the number of hours flown.
For cabin crew, the minimum salary is 25,000 rupees per month, while the maximum salary can be as high as 78,000 rupees per month, depending on the level of employment.
For pilots, a trainee pilot (junior first officer in training) receives Rs. 50,000 per month. Junior First Officers receive Rs. 2.35 lakh per month after line clearance and with up to one year of experience.
The monthly salary of a first officer in Air India is Rs. 3.45 lakh, while a captain (SFO), a first officer with ATPL, gets Rs. 4.75 lakh per month. A commander, who has been internally upgraded from a captain or SFO and holds a Pl rating for the company’s aircraft type, earns Rs. 7.50 lakh per month.
Higher commanders with more than four years of P1 rating on a company aircraft type earn Rs. 8.50 lakh per month. Pilots are also entitled to various allowances, such as flight allowances, wide-body allowances, domestic stopover allowances, and foreign stopover allowances, depending on their experience and hours flown.
For cabin crew, the pay structure also depends on the level of the employee and the number of hours flown. A cabin crew trainee receives 25,000 per month, while a senior cabin crew member can earn up to 64,000 per month and a senior cabin crew member can receive up to 78,000 per month.
In addition, cabin crew are entitled to flight allowances, airport standby allowances, check crew allowances, and international and domestic stopover allowances.
It’s important to note that the salary structure for both pilots and flight attendants assumes 70 flight hours per month. Moving between pay grades is also subject to the company’s safety and disciplinary policies. Air India has stated that this new salary structure is aimed at attracting and retaining talent in the aviation industry.
