Tech giant Apple is now cracking down on remote work by monitoring the attendance of employees who are required to report to the office at least three days a week.

Employees must be present in the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, with most able to work remotely on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Zoë Schiffer tweeted the information on her Twitter handle: “Apple tracks employee attendance via badges and will give employees escalating warnings if they don’t show up three times a week.”

“At Apple, some companies say non-compliance can lead to termination, but that doesn’t seem to be a company-wide policy,” the tweet continued.

The company has had a hybrid policy in place since April 2022. Under that policy, the company was required to work from the office at least three days per week.

According to a recent report by Bloomberg’s Mark German describing several cost-cutting measures newly introduced by Apple, managers will be monitoring office attendance “more rigorously than ever before,” which some employees see as a harbinger of the firing of employees who don’t comply.

Recently, Apple rolled back some of its Covid policies because the number of Covid cases was declining and very low. Apple has made changes to its COVID-19 policy. The company no longer requires employees to be tested before entering the office.

It also removed the special sick leave policy that previously allowed unlimited sick leave for workers with Covid symptoms. The new rule and changes to the COVID-19 policy were implemented Jan. 30, 2023.

Recently, Apple’s chief executive officer (CEO), Tim Cook, accepted a 40% pay cut in 2023. The salary reduction was based on balance sheet feedback, Apple’s exceptional performance, and a recommendation. Tim Cook’s current salary was $49 million (3,98,75,71,000 INR) in 2023.

Previously, Tim Cook earned USD 99.4 million in 2022. The salary package includes a base salary of USD 3 million, about USD 83 million in stock awards, and a bonus. In 2021, his previous salary was $98.7 million.
