Industries to be focus on Manpower Skill-up in 5G era: Telecom Secretary

 

 

5G has been introduced in India in 2022 and now rollout in 51 Cities across India. Further, 5G is going to introduced and implemented in whole india by 2025. Where every sector have to prepared for meeting the advanced techonologies demand, 5G.

 

TSSC organized an event on “Telecom Vision on 5G Training” on Monday. In this event, DoT Secretary, K Rajaraman addresses the telecom industry.

 

With rollout underway, Dot Secretary K Rajaraman, exhorted the telecom industry, the sector skill council, states, and numerous stakeholders to make all-out efforts to enhance and deepen the training initiatives that will meet the evolving needs of the sector.

 

 

Terming the telecom sector as a crucial sector, Rajaraman noted the “great demand” for skilled manpower in the various aspects of digital connectivity, including on the network and retail sides.

  

The telecom secretary was speaking in an event ‘Telecom vision to 5G training’ organized by Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC).

 

He emphasized the need for imparting the “right kind of skill” and asked the industry and all stakeholders to collectively find pathways to address the skill requirements.

 

According to him, the telecom industry requires both high-end and low-end skills, and the telecom department is interested in the entire stack.

 

Rajaraman pointed out that state governments, which are important stakeholders, have a number of programs for upskilling and reskilling.

 

“In the last few months, we have been able to conduct a number of programs… ” “One of them is to sensitize all state governments about the upcoming opportunities in 5G rollout,”  he said, adding that states must come forward to lay out funds and focus on 5G and related skills. This would strengthen the foundations of the digital economy across the country.

 

 

The Department of Telecom (DoT) has also requested that the Ministry of Skill Development look into negotiating mutual recognition agreements with other countries, so that telecom professionals certified from training institutes in India can even look at employment opportunities outside of India, Rajaraman said.

 

 

“It is important that we map the job requirements of other countries and the standards they require,” Rajaraman said.

 

 

Arvind Bali, CEO of the Telecom Sector Skill Council, said 5G will boost the Indian economy, and added, “We are currently facing an acute shortage of about 1.4 lakh workers in 5G and its related technologies.”

 

TSSC has, over the past decade, trained over 10 lakh candidates in various roles catering to the industry’s demand, he said, pledging the Council’s support for new training initiatives in emerging areas.
