The ex-CEO of Tech Mahindra shares valuable insights from his 19-year Tech Mahindra journey in retirement.
CP Gurnani, former CEO and Managing Director of Tech Mahindra, bid adieu after completing 19 years at the company. As he’retired’ from his business life, Gurnani issued a goodbye message on LinkedIn. In the letter, he shared valuable learnings from his remarkable career.
“You need both every day,” CP Gurnani stated. “There’s grace in learning like it’s your first time at something and beauty in delivering like it’s your last.” I want to tell you one thing: I have been all of you at one time in my life. You have to understand that, with enough effort, you can achieve anything. Individual greatness is the focus here, and the top spot on the stage should be your only goal. It’s up to you; develop yourself and make the most of your time and talent.”
Gurnani went on to discuss the importance of teamwork. He said, “You will nearly always need a team in life and at work. It’s unlikely that you will make significant progress by yourself, but you will either lead one, participate in one, or both. Consider how your strengths can help you win when you play together. But consider your areas of weakness further, and consider how you may work with others’ strengths to succeed as a team. Consider a relay race: you will run, but you will tire out soon. You hand the baton to someone else since you are unable to run the entire distance on your own. The show continues even after the actors swap roles.
This post was shared a few hours ago on LinkedIn. Since being posted, it has gained more than 6,700 likes and numerous comments.
Here’s how people reacted to Gurnani’s post:
“Wishing you a fulfilling and joyous retirement, and may your next chapter be as enriching as the legacy you’ve left behind,” posted a third.
A fourth said, “Best Wishes to you, CP. Amazing leadership, so many lessons. You need to write a book—oh, I see that it’s already written. Wish you the best!”
