The Election Commission of India announced the schedule for the 2024 general election, which will be held in seven phases. In regard to Section 135B of the People Act of 1951, which describes the grant of paid holiday to employees on the day of the poll, all states have notified the provision of paid holiday in their respective states.

All establishments that do not announce a holiday on voting day but wish to offer a two-hour concession must obtain prior approval (Prior nod) from the district collector or district election officer.

Mumbai suburban district collector Rajendra Kshirsagar has warned action will be taken against establishments in case of complaints of non-grant of leave or concession to employees to cast their votes.

Voting for the Lok Sabha election in Mumbai will be held on May 20. There are six parliamentary constituencies in Mumbai, four of these are in the Mumbai suburban district.

Kshirsagar said establishments such as industrial groups, corporations, companies and institutions must give ample leave or concession of two hours to all employees who are voters in Mumbai suburban district but are working outside the election area to enable them to cast their votes. “Establishments which are not able to give a full-day holiday should give a concession of two hours to the voters, but it is necessary to get permission from the collector or district election officer,” he said to TOI
