Return to Office Mandate with 5-day work week create new troubles for TCS employees?
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest IT services company, has halted its hybrid work policy and requested its workers to Return to Office and work from the office 5 days a week beginning October 1, 2023.
Employees came to the office three days a week until October 1. In an internal communication, the company stated, “As communicated by the CEO and chief human resources officer (CHRO) in various town-halls, it is mandatory for all associates to attend office (return to office) on all working days (5 days per week if there are no holidays) starting 1 October 2023.” Media news reported on the official mail sent to TCS workers on September 29, 2023.
This is a significant departure from TCS’ former policy, which required employees to follow a roster and be in the office three days a week beginning in September 2022. It had also cautioned staff about the repercussions of not adhering to this roster.
Milind Makkad, Global CHRO, TCS, stated during the announcement of the Q2FY24 results, “We have hired a large number of workforce in the last three years, and they were working in Hybrid or Virtual mode, we strongly believe they need to come to work all days (return to office) so that new workforce gets integrated with a larger workforce of TCS.” Only in this manner can students learn about TCS Values and Culture.”
“We will continue to assess our working models and evolve depending on what works best for our customers and employees.” He went on to say.
TCS appears to have requested its staff to (return to office) work from the office 5 days a week beginning October 1, however the communication is not as strict as it was for 3 days a week, and the business will maintain flexibility/hybrid policies and make exceptions where necessary.
However, other IT firms like as Infosys, Wipro, HCLTech, and others have not yet made working from the office necessary for their employees.
