Shifting working models troubles 75% of Employers : Report

Shifting working models troubles 75% of Employers, A Forrester survey report.

72% of organizations polled currently use a hybrid working style, with 75% saying that the shift to remote and hybrid working models has exacerbated IT operational issues.

HP Inc. published the findings of a new commissioned study done by Forrester Consulting, emphasizing the need of enterprises adopting always-on endpoint management to cater to increasingly distributed global workforces.

According to a poll of 312 IT and security decision-makers conducted by Forrester Consulting, businesses are trying to balance asset management, user experience assurance, and risk management.

The following are some of the key results from the 2023 study, “Mastering Endpoint Security In A Hybrid World“:

  • The main issues that businesses encounter when managing remote endpoints include assuring data security (60%), keeping software on distant devices up to date (55%), and optimizing asset database accuracy (55%).
  • Only 42% of businesses do annual firmware updates, 23% update every two years or fewer, and 12% only update “when necessary,” placing them at risk of security risks and compatibility difficulties.
  • Two-thirds (67%) of respondents said their company’s IT department is concerned about maintaining secure and uninterrupted connection with remote endpoints.
IT is forced to rely on poor protection, with half identifying insufficient endpoint security solutions as a barrier to tackling security and management issues.
  • Meanwhile, 54% say full-disk encryption provides enough endpoint security but admit it can be insufficient. For instance, suppose the attacker has physical access to the device.

“The flexibility of being able to work and hire employees all over the world is one of the many benefits of living in a digital economy,” says Dr. Ian Pratt, Global Head of Security for Personal Systems at HP Inc. However, as the workplace evolves, so must security.”

“To offer secure, efficient, and user-friendly IT experiences in the future, companies will need an always-on endpoint management infrastructure that can support this new way of working” , said Dr. Ian Pratt.

The linchpin of complete endpoint management is always-on connectivity.

When asked how these issues may be overcome, 75% of respondents felt that better endpoint management will improve overall corporate operations and efficiency.

Endpoint software tracking and management were recognized as a need by 48% of businesses. Respondents seek device backup and restoration features (55%), device recovery process automation (47%), BIOS update deployment (46%), and device location tracking (46%).

82% of respondents are contemplating investing in solutions that can geo-locate, lock, and delete PCs remotely to improve remote endpoint security and administration.

Once available, solutions such as HP Wolf Protect and Trace with HP Wolf Connect will be able to remotely locate, lock, and delete a PC, even if it is switched off or removed from the internet.

“An always-on approach to fleet management is critical for ensuring device security and optimizing distributed working environments.” “Continuous endpoint monitoring and real-time device management will assist businesses in protecting sensitive data on the move while also lowering IT costs by reducing PC remediation or replacement,” Dr. Pratt says.
