Delhi Government Hiked Minimum Wages second time in six months

The Delhi government raised the minimum wage for the second time in six months. To assist workers in dealing with growing living costs, the Delhi government has announced an increase in monthly wages for unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled labourers within the city.

Raaj Kumar Anand, the labour minister, has mandated that the increased pay be adopted by all companies beginning April 1.

According to the revised rates, skilled workers’ monthly earnings have climbed by Rs 546 to Rs 20,903, semi-skilled workers’ wages have increased by Rs 494 to Rs 18,993, and unskilled workers’ wages have increased by Rs 442 to Rs 17,234. The most recent change to the minimum wage occurred in October 2022.

However, the opposition party, the BJP, and trade groups have slammed the measure, accusing the ruling party AAP of raising the minimum wage but failing to ensure its implementation by employers.

Meanwhile, retail inflation in India has fallen to 5.66 percent, the lowest in 15 months, thanks to lower food and fuel prices, but annual inflation has remained high at 6.7 percent, the worst since 2013-14.

Additionally, the government has increased the pay of supervisors and clerical workers. According to the revised rates, non-matric employees’ monthly salary has been increased by Rs 494 to Rs 18,993, matriculation pass and non-graduate employees’ monthly salary has been increased to Rs 20,903, and graduate employees and labourers with higher educational qualifications’ monthly salary has been increased by Rs 598 to Rs 22,744.
