EPFO Eases Claim Settlement Removes Cheque Upload & Employer Approval For Bank Seeding
One of the key reforms eliminates the need for uploading images of cheque leaves or attested bank passbooks during online claims. This change, initially introduced on a pilot basis for KYC-updated members, has already benefited 1.7 crore members since its rollout on May 28, 2024. Following its success, the Ministry of Labour and Employment has extended this relaxation to all EPFO members, benefiting over 7.7 crore individuals.

New Delhi: In a move to enhance efficiency and reduce grievances, the Centre has announced significant reforms in the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation’s (EPFO) claim settlement process. These changes aim to simplify procedures and benefit millions of EPFO members.
The ministry clarified that since the bank account holder’s name is verified during the seeding of the Universal Account Number (UAN), additional documentation is unnecessary. “Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the EPFO continues its reform journey. Two major reforms have been introduced to make the claim settlement process simpler, faster, and hassle-free for crores of EPF members and employers,” said Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Labour and Employment.
In another breakthrough, the EPFO has streamlined the process of bank account seeding with UAN by removing employer approval after bank verification. This change is expected to address delays caused by employer-level processing, which currently takes an average of 13 days.
The ministry reported that around 36,000 requests for bank account seeding are raised daily, with banks requiring approximately three days for verification. However, employer approvals have contributed significantly to the backlog, with 14.95 lakh approvals still pending.
Out of 7.74 crore active EPFO members, 4.83 crore have already seeded their bank accounts with UAN. Members can now update their bank account details seamlessly by entering their new account number and IFSC code, authenticated through Aadhaar OTP.
These reforms mark a notable step forward in simplifying EPFO processes, ensuring faster claim settlements and greater convenience for members. The changes underscore the government’s commitment to streamlining operations and addressing longstanding bottlenecks. For further insights into the evolving workplace paradigm, visit
