IBM has ceased hiring and introduce AI to replace 7800 jobs
IBM, also known as Big Blue, aims to seize the recruitment process for specific roles and predicts that artificial intelligence (AI) technology will be able to replace around 7,800 employment.
According to CEO Arvind Krishna, back-office hiring, notably in human resources, would be halted or decreased. Within the next five years, IBM predicts that AI and automation will replace 30% of non-customer-facing positions.
In the midst of the hoopla surrounding OpenAI’s ChatGPT, a chatbot powered by AI and supported by Microsoft that debuted in November, IBM revealed plans to halt hiring and replace thousands of positions with AI. The chatbot’s success has garnered global attention to the potential of AI to revolutionise other industries, including software development.
AI could potentially replace the following jobs:
Clerk for Data Entry
Representative of Customer Service
Proofreader, Paralegal Bookkeeper
Copywriter, Translator, Market Research Analyst
Appointment Scheduler for Social Media Manager
Telemarketer, Transcriptionist, News Reporter, Travel Agent, Tutor, Technical Support Analyst, Email Marketer, Content Moderator and Recruiter
The CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, has admitted that while AI has the potential to profoundly revolutionise society, it also offers enormous hazards. Altman goes on to say that while AI chatbots have the ability to destroy many current occupations, he also sees AI as a technology with the potential to be “the greatest technology humanity has yet developed” and improve our lives.
AI has made great progress in automating jobs and boosting the productivity of software development, according to industry experts. As AI technology progresses, it is projected that AI systems will undertake more and more development jobs, resulting in additional industry upheaval.
Although the impact of AI on the job market is being debated, the implementation of AI in various industries may create new job opportunities and redefine the workforce. According to industry analysts, firms will need to react and commit resources for training and upskilling programmes to prepare their staff for the workplace transition brought about by AI-based technology.
