Labor Department Summon TCS on Onboarding Delay

Labor Department summons TCS on the onboarding delay to submit a reply to the NITES Complaint.

The Maharashtra Ministry of Labour and Employment has issued a notice to Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for a delay in onboarding following a complaint lodged by a Pune-based IT union.

To hear the TCS opinion on the matter, a hearing meeting was called for November 2, 2023, according to a notice issued by Maharashtra’s Ministry of Labour and Employment.

Earlier in July, it was reported that NITES had requested intervention from Minister of Labour and Employment Bhupender Yadav.

According to media sources, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has put over 200 lateral recruits on hold. These new hires are from Bangalore, Pune, Kochi, Bhubaneswar, Delhi NCR, and Indore and have experience ranging from 1.8 to 15 years.

The IT union claimed that when the employees arrived at TCS headquarters on their joining date, they were notified of the delay in their onboarding.

According to the Economic Times, Maharashtra’s Labour Department has sent a notice to TCS on the delay in onboarding. However, the corporation has yet to comment on the number of employees affected.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), on the other hand, is on track to hire 40,000 freshmen in FY2024. TCS COO N. Ganapathy Subramaniam stated, “We usually hire between 35,000 and 40,000 people, and those plans are still in place.”

“There are no mass layoffs.” We’ve adjusted this such that we’re aiming to improve our own usage since we have a good bench,” N. Ganapathy remarked.

He also stated that TCS typically hires between 35,000 and 40,000 workers and that these intentions will not change.

According to N. Ganapathy Subramaniam, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director, “we continue to make investments in our people and new technologies.”

“We now have a 100,000-strong pool of Gen-AI Ready consultants and prompt engineers who are engaged in hundreds of Gen-AI projects for our clients across segments” , said N. Ganapathy, CEO of N. Ganapathy.

Chief Human Resources Officer Milind Lakkad stated, “Our strategy of proactively hiring bright freshmen and investing in training them with the right skills is paying off.”

“With that talent coming on stream and with reduced attrition, we were able to recalibrate our gross additions, keeping it below the departures during the quarter, driving up productivity, and enhancing project outcomes” , Milind Lakkad said in a press release.

TCS LTM IT Services attrition rate this quarter is 17.8%, with a workforce strength of 615,318 in financial results for Q1 FY24, the quarter ending June 30, 2023. The company’s net headcount addition is 523, with women accounting for 35.8% of the workforce.
