Mamta Banerjee bans Employee Protests in The West Bengal

Employee protests are prohibited in West Bengal State, according to Trinamool Congress leader Mamta Banerjee. Employees of state governments were subject to this ban, which prevented them from asking the government for an increase in their DA.

Government personnel are forbidden from participating in protests, including during tiffin breaks, according to a circular signed by the additional chief secretary of West Bengal’s finance department. The circular also prohibits employees from leaving their workplaces during the assigned working hours and specifies that participating employees would be marked as absent.

The general secretary of Joutha Manch, the coordination organisation that represents state government employees, Biswajit Gupta Choudhury, characterised the choice as a clear breach of those rights. He made it clear that they won’t allow such an activity to take place.

State government employees have protested in an effort to get their dearness allowance (DA) increased. Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister, has blamed the continuing protest for the loss of 36,000 primary teachers’ jobs in state-sponsored and -aided institutions.

The request for a DA increase, according to Banerjee, was needless, and she emphasised that the government had the power to select how it will be distributed. She further asserted that people associated with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) who have relatives working for the Public Service Commission coordination committee may have trouble finding employment.

Over 25,000 government workers from several districts assembled on May 4 in front of the State Secretariat to seek a considerable increase in dearness allowance (DA). They thought that the 3 percent rise proposed was significantly less than the 38 percent DA granted to Central, which is the current DA granted by West Bengal.
