In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, tech skills are in high demand. This is particularly true in the e-commerce sector, where a significant 64% of organizations are actively seeking to hire women with tech skills, according to a recent survey report by GiGroup Holding.

 

The survey reveals that 54% of e-commerce firms looking to hire freshers also prefer candidates with tech skills. This trend underscores the increasing importance of tech skills in the e-commerce sector, regardless of the candidate’s experience level.

 

Interestingly, while the retail sector is keen on hiring freshers, e-commerce organizations are more inclined towards experienced professionals. However, the common denominator between these two sectors is the demand for tech skills.

 

Despite the demand for tech skills, the survey indicates a projected 35% dip in fresher hiring by e-commerce firms this year. This could be attributed to various factors, including the wave of layoffs, limited budgets, and a more selective hiring process, particularly among startups.

 

In contrast, the retail sector witnessed an 8% increase in job applications in 2023 compared to 2022. The demand for retail jobs also surged by 18% in 2023, with a staggering 86.86% of applications coming from candidates aged between 18 and 30.

 

The logistics sector, a crucial component of e-commerce operations, saw a 13.89% dip in active jobs in the third quarter of FY24 during the peak season. However, new job postings did increase by about 10% at the beginning of 2023, indicating a potential recovery as the peak season approaches.

 

While retail employers are more inclined to hire freshers, with 52% prioritizing entry-level professionals, e-commerce companies are slowing down their fresher hiring. Instead, 42% of e-commerce firms expressed a preference for experienced professionals.

 

As the logistics sector continues to grow, e-commerce firms are increasingly seeking experienced professionals for their supply-chain operations. About 38% of firms prioritize the recruitment of experienced professionals, while 34% emphasize gender diversity and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in their hiring practices.

 

Interestingly, about 30% of employers emphasized the recruitment of female candidates, while 16% emphasized the recruitment of male candidates. This data highlights the increasing focus on gender diversity in the e-commerce sector.
