Air India Introduce’s AI based performance appraisal system for Nonflying staff for new Financial review period.

Air India, a Tata Sons-owned airline, is adopting a new AI-based appraisal system for non-flying employee for 2023-24 review period.

In his weekly address to employees, airline CEO and MD Campbell Wilson says, “Rise.AI will implement a fair, transparent, and fully digital appraisal system with well-defined job descriptions and explicit performance goals, so that all of our employees understand what is expected of them and what they must deliver on.”

Campbell noted in an official communication to the employee, “Reiterated the objectives laid out under the flagship program, Vihaan.AI.”

The airline recently updated the job contracts for non-flying employees, with retroactive effect from April 1.

The modifications are market-driven and increase efficiency. The airline recently implemented a variable pay component based on performance.

Campbell Wilson, CEO and MD, stated, “The new grades and designations have been arrived at after a comprehensive formal job evaluation to assess the size and complexity of each role, which has then been benchmarked against external companies so that the grade and associated compensation is aligned with market standards.”

“This variable component will be directly linked to both the company’s and each individual’s performance in a financial year, and it will be based on clearer job descriptions that provide well-defined goals, KPIs (key performance indicators), and accountabilities,” he added.

The airline has recently relaxed its leave policy for retiring staff. Previously, Air India updated its privileged leave policy for staff on April 1. The airline was altering its policy for the coming fiscal year, which included both permanent and full-term contract employees.

According to previous reports, Air India’s Chief Human Resources Officer Suresh Dutt Tripathi stated, “We are comprehensively reviewing our leave policy to align it with the prevailing market practices.”

“As part of that process, the accumulation and encashment limits for Privilege Leave (PL) are being revised,” Suresh noted.
