Ashok Ramchandran, new Group HR Director for Aditya Birla, following Santrupt Misra’s early retirement
In a surprise year-end change of leadership, Group HR Director Santrupt Misra announced to end his 28-year career with Aditya Birla Group. Ashok Ramchandran will step into his shoes next January.
Ashok Ramchandran, new Group HR Director for Aditya Birla, following Santrupt Misra’s early retirement announcement this week.
The company’s current Group Executive President, Ashok Ramchandran, will become the new Director of HR. Prior to joining the company in 2015, he served as Vodafone India’s Director of HR.
As the year draws to a close, there are going to be changes and departures. Santrupt Misra, the Group HR Director at Aditya Birla Group, has made an unexpected choice to quit the corporate sector and pursue other interests.
On Wednesday, the company sent an internal email to the other Aditya Birla leaders about Misra’s exit decision. Following that, the group declared that his employment with Aditya Birla will officially expire on January 15, 2024, capping 28 years of service during which he not only advanced through the HR function at Aditya Birla but also—unusually for an HR leader—took charge of many business units.
In addition to heading the group’s IT department and serving as CEO of the company’s Chemicals and Carbon Black divisions, he currently holds the positions of Group HR Director, Group Director of Birla Carbon, and Director of Chemicals.
Among Misra’s several accomplishments as HR director include making the Aditya Birla Group a reputable employer and expanding Birla Carbon into a significant international enterprise. Aryaman and Ananya Birla, the sixth-generation scions of the Birla family, are said to have benefited from his mentoring.
The Aditya Birla Group has already verified at least one of Misra’s replacements. Though it’s unclear who would assume his other directorships, Ashok Ramchandran, the Group Executive President of Human Resources, will take over as Group HR Director.
In 2015, Ramchandran left Vodafone, where he served as Director of Human Resources, to join the group. Throughout his time at Aditya Birla Group, he has been a steadfast supporter of giving workers, particularly those in their younger years, good opportunities. He has also argued that the HR department and the company as a whole will benefit greatly from the involvement of these young, rising leaders.
After working for almost thirty years at the Kumar Mangalam Birla-led aluminum-to-cement conglomerate, Santrupt Misra, director of group human resources (HR) at the Aditya Birla Group, has made the decision to leave.
Misra was a director of chemicals at the Birla group and group director of Birla Carbon, making her one of the few HR directors in India Inc. who also oversaw many business units.
For more than twenty years, Misra has served on the boards of publicly traded corporations, unlisted enterprises, and not-for-profit organizations in India and abroad as both an executive and non-executive director. He holds directorships in a number of listed Aditya Birla Group firms, including Grasim, Aditya Birla Capital Ltd., and Birla Carbon Thailand.
