UAE Industries facing diverse hiring challenges Amid Diversity Norms

Businesses in the UAE are facing diverse hiring challenges amid the government’s announced diversity norms.
Authorities in the UAE advise businesses to “achieve demographic diversity while hiring” when they find that a particular South Asian nationality predominates among their workforce, and they apply for fresh visas for members of that nationality. When an excessive number of workers from a specific nationality apply for fresh visas, this notice is displayed.
After contacting the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE), a business service center in Dubai discovered that employers need to diversify their workforce when it comes to nationality. They are told to distribute the “first 20 percent of available quotas” among various nationalities, with the clarification that the strategy is related to general demographic diversity rather than any particular ethnicity.
It is recommended that a corporation attempt to hire an employee of a different nationality if it receives a message to achieve diversity.
Additionally, the call center for the MoHRE attested to the need that a company’s initial 20 percent of employees be diversified. In order to meet diversity standards, the employer must hire a person of a different nationality for the same function if a visa application is denied due to a lack of diversity. All nationalities are subject to the same policies.
One of the workers emphasized that he had worked for a company with a diverse staff and had been successful in getting a visa for an Indian applicant. But when the same was tried for a company that hired a lot of Indians, the “achieve diversity” message was heard.
An executive from a different business center emphasized the UAE’s objective of increasing workplace diversity. He also mentioned that businesses that employ numerous people from Bangladesh, Pakistan, or India are prohibited from requesting new visas for citizens of these nations.
The UAE implemented a three-tier classification system in 2022, according to MoHRE. Reaching diversity in hiring is one of the requirements for obtaining a better classification, which comes with perks like reductions on work permits and transfer fees. Visa specialists and agents categorically refute reports made on social media that the UAE has stopped granting visas to Indians, Pakistanis, and Bangladeshis.
