EPFO Gives Relief on Joint Declaration submission for special category
The form is necessary for various purposes, such as correcting errors in personal information, updating nominee details, linking Aadhaar numbers, or rectifying discrepancies in the EPF account.
In general, an employee’s EPF (Employees’ Provident Fund) account can be updated or corrected using the Joint Declaration Form for the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). Usually, it needs the employer’s and the employee’s signatures.
The form is necessary for various purposes, such as correcting errors in personal information, updating nominee details, linking Aadhaar numbers, or rectifying discrepancies in the EPF account.
To rectify erroneous information in the PF account, the form must be sent to the Regional PF Commissioner. The purpose of this action is to improve general efficiency in handling EPF accounts and expedite the procedure for specific members.
The EPFO has declared: “All such cases where the employers paid administrative charges on such contribution made to pay more than the statutory limit, but the employees left their employment or died until October 31, 2023.” The employees had already contributed more than the statutory limit on their salary.
“To prevent inconveniences for the involved parties, it is believed that these cases have been permitted to contribute in excess of the legally stipulated amount,” the EPFO continued.
Two groups of current employees will get immediate relief from the EPFO:
- Even when their base pay eventually exceeded Rs 15,000 per month, employees who joined the EPF system with a monthly basic salary of less than Rs 15,000 per month continued to make contributions to the EPF account.
- The second category consists of workers who were hired with a base pay that was less than the legal minimum wage and who later changed positions but failed to file the required paperwork.
