It has been reported that supervisors are being asked by Amazon to dock performance scores for workers who don’t follow the Return to Office (RTO) policy. According to reports from Business Insider, the massive online retailer has taken a bold move by preventing promotions for individuals who don’t satisfy the strict requirements for office attendance.
Some Amazon employees believe that the company’s extremely stringent return-to-office policy is part of a wider plan that resembles a “quiet firing” plot, according to insider sources. According to the story, Amazon deliberately puts workers through difficult circumstances and encourages them to quit on their own volition, which eventually helps the business reduce expenses without having to deal with the fallout from outright firings.
The dispute started in early 2023 when Amazon made it mandatory for the majority of employees to work three days a week. The business then instituted a “return-to-hub” policy in July, assigning core locations to each team. If staff members don’t follow this guideline, they will be expected to either join another team or face a “voluntary resignation,” in which case their departure will be considered voluntary.

Some Amazon employees have announced their resignations on Slack and other communication platforms in response to the contentious return-to-hub policy. A disgruntled employee said, “The lack of basic human respect leadership has shown with the layoffs and forced RTO is completely unacceptable.”
Amazon defended its choice by saying, “In February, we shared with employees that we’d be asking them to start coming into the office three or more times a week beginning in May because we believe it would yield the best long-term results for our customers, business, and culture.” Despite opposition from the outside world and internal dissension, the business seems dedicated to its mission.
