Indian IT Sector Hiring Declined by 21%, but AI jobs See Growth Naukri JobSpeak Index Report
Big issues for the organization include post-pandemic, global economic crises, mass layoffs in the modern workplace, and maintaining more stable jobs. Because of this, there is an imbalance between the supply and demand of jobs worldwide, which contributes to the high unemployment rate. Instead, a Naukri JobSpeak Index Report showed that hiring in the Indian IT sector fell by 21% while hiring in AI jobs is growing.
According to a report released on Tuesday, hiring in the Indian IT sector fell by 21% in December 2023 compared to the same month in 2022, continuing a pattern that was evident for the majority of the previous year’s second half.
The Naukri JobSpeak Index indicates that despite a cautious employment market for the IT industry, some job roles witnessed strong hiring, including full-stack data scientist, automation engineer, and IT infrastructure engineer.
A number of significant industries showed cautious hiring sentiments in December, with job offers falling by 17 percent, 11 percent, 11 percent, and 10 percent, respectively, compared to the same month in 2022. These industries included BPO, education, retail, and healthcare.
In terms of employment growth in December, the hotel and pharmaceutical industries led the way.
Al received five times as many new employment offers in the most recent month compared to the same month in 2022.
According to Dr. Pawan Goyal, Chief Business Officer of Naukri.com, “we observe marginal sequential growth of 2 percent in December hiring activity compared to November, driven by non-IT sectors.”
But the IT industry remained severely hit, dragging the entire index lower than it was the previous year and indicating a longer wait for a full recovery in IT hiring,” he stated.
The hospitality industry maintained its upward trajectory in terms of fresh job offers, recording a 4% rise in hiring in comparison to December 2022.
The cities of Delhi-NCR and Mumbai are experiencing the fastest job growth in this area. In the industry, senior experts with more than 16 years of experience were the most sought-after applicants for employment.
The hiring rate in the pharmaceutical industry increased by 2%. According to the report, the pharmaceutical industry has grown and seen a spike in placements as a result of a renewed emphasis on research and development.
The metros were eclipsed by the non-metros. According to the data, Vadodara saw a 3% increase in new job offers in the most recent month compared to the same month in 2022.
