Stellantis announced a mandatory remote work day’, then fired 400 employees
The Stellantis claimed to be holding an "important operational meeting that requires specific attention and participation" in an email sent to the staff. Additionally, unless instructed otherwise by their manager, "employees are expected to work from home," according to the email.
Stellantis, a multinational automotive manufacturing corporation formed from the merger in 2021 of the Italian-American conglomerate Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the French PSA Group, fired 400 employees on call on a pre-announced mandatory remote work day.
According to reports, the car manufacturer Stellantis fired over 400 of its corporate staff last week in the US. The company had mandated working from home for one day before the layoff took place over the phone.
The Street claims that the business informed staff members that “all U.S. Salaried Non-Bargaining Unit” workers in its engineering and technology division would be required to work remotely.
The corporation claimed to be holding an “important operational meeting that requires specific attention and participation” in an email sent to the staff. Additionally, unless instructed otherwise by their manager, “employees are expected to work from home,” according to the email.
The organization also instructed staff members to make the required preparations for working remotely and to contact their managers or HR with any queries or concerns.
The corporation reportedly let go of some 400 workers during the conference, claiming cost reductions as a result of the “unprecedented uncertainties and heightened competitive pressures” it is facing. This information was reported by Reuters.
“Everyone who was on the call was fired in bulk,” a mechanical engineer who wished to remain anonymous told FOX 2 Detroit. Over the phone, the engineer, who was let go, claimed that Stellantis is outsourcing work to Brazil, Mexico, and India.
Thus, they keep pushing for low-cost nations that are more profitable and efficient for business. Although the auto sector is quite profitable, it faces many difficulties. There is the electrification issue, which will be quite expensive for automakers. The new UAW contract is another financial burden on automakers. So Stellantis isn’t the only one. He said, “Everyone is focused on the bottom line,” to FOX 2 Detroit.
